1.EAT BREAKFAST ONLY FOCUSING ON EATING
Being honest, it’s not something enjoyable at first, it’s way more fun to watch a tv show or scroll on your phone. But focusing exclusively on eating can help you from overeating and will make you enjoy more and taste the food better. It’s a very helpful practice if you find yourself tense or with anxiety when eating. Take your time, enjoy every bite, chew as many times as possible and breathe.
2. TAKE ONE MINUTE A DAY TO JUST FOCUS ON YOUR BREATH
Especially when we are rushing all day, or if you ever feel stress takes the power away from you, just stop. Put a timer for 1 minute and focus on inhaling and exhaling slowly. If you own an apple watch you can easily use the breath app to guide you. This will regulate your mood, thoughts, stress… Has it ever happened to you that you are angry and don’t know why? Or you are lout? That is the perfect time to do this, focus on your breath and realize how is your mood and why. If it’s now worth it snap out of it. Remember you can do this as many times as you want per day.

Nowadays we want to be distracted all the time, consuming entertainment 24/7 or connected to others through the phone, sure it’s normal, it’s 2019, but is it healthy? Do you dedicate some minutes from you day to just think? Appreciate your life and reflect on your behaviour? Well, take this spare time when on the public transport and just look out the window and ponder about you as an individual. If you aren’t comfortable doing this yet or your are getting the tube and there’s nothing to stare at, grab a notebook and write those thoughts.
4. CAPTURE TO DO’S IN NOTEBOOK INSTEAD OF MULTITASKING
Whenever you feel overwhelmed because you have so many things to do and no time the worse thing is trying to do them all at once. Instead: stop, grab a notebook, list them all, prioritize them and start focusing on them one by one. This way you’ll see realistically when can you finish and you’ll be closing tasks one by one, that will help you feel accomplished. Plus your brain works so much better when you are only doing one thing at a time. That is what this whole post is about right?
5. HAVE A MORNING RITUAL
Having a mindful morning routine is very beneficial for mental peace and concentration during the day. A very simple and quick example could be: Wake up a little earlier, appreciate the silence, don’t look at any screens yet, have some tea/coffee and write your personal goals for the day. From here you can add stuff, some people like to meditate first thing in the morning, others like to dedicate 10 minutes to do something creative. The important fact is that morning shouldn’t be rushed, let your mind be aware of what you are doing by executing these actions one at the time.
6. DECLUTTER YOUR WORKSPACE
To be able to fully focus at one task at the time you should have as least distractions as possible. Declutter your desk before each big brake to ensure the desk is clear at all times. For some people one time a day is enough but if you struggle think of it as a challenge! it will be fun!
7. DON’T START ONE TASK BEFORE FINISHING THE PREVIOUS ONE
This is something that could sum up this whole article. Being in the moment, mindful of what you are doing at all time will help you do one thing at the time. Plan your tasks ahead and finish it before starting something else.
8. DIVIDE YOUR TASKS INTO 25 MINUTE INTERVALS
Dividing your tasks in 25 minutes intervals is called the pomodoro method. Shut down any distraction (email , social media etc) set a timer for 25 minutes and deliver your full focus on your task. After these 25 minutes you have to take a 5 minute break, go for a coffee, get some fresh air, check your email… Then repeat! The Pomodoro method is a technique used to increase productivity and attention, this can be maintained effectively if distractions are only managed in rest periods.
9. SWITCH TO BACKGROUND MUSIC WHEN WORKING
If you enjoy working while listening to music we recommend you do browse on spotify a instrumental list, or focus related playlists. If you work while listening to your favorite music you can disconnect every time you know the lyrics or a good one comes up. Lyric free music or music in a language you don’t know can be very helpful.
10. WATCH A MOVIE FROM START TO FINISH WITHOUT DISTRACTIONS
It’s a common thing to get distracted and get up from the sofa multiple times while watching a movie. If you are at home pretend is a cinema, prepare everything before hand and focus that couple of hours enjoying the movie.
11. LISTEN TO AN ALBUM ALL THE WAY THROUGH
Some people hate to do this, but it’s actually something will maintain your mood for the whole album, did you know some albums tella story if you listen to all songs in order? If you are very impatient and think that is too much you can’t start by listening to one full song at a time and not skip to the next song when in the chorus.
12. FOCUS ON THE ART OF LISTENING INSTEAD OF TALKING
This one is to enrich and improve your relationships. Pay attention to what the other person is saying, listen, and don’t think about what you should say next, let yourself react to what needs to come through. Don’t judge and you won’t be judged.
13.DETOX FROM TECHNOLOGY ONE DAY A WEEK
Detoxing from technology can be a bit scared at first because of the time that we live in, but is as easy as: once day a week during your personal free time don’t use any technology. Take advantage of that day to read a book, paint, give your dog an extra long walk… Enjoy!
14. KEEP ONE BROWSER WINDOW OPEN AT A TIME
Ok, this is not that easy, especially when tasks involve research. just remember to check what you open every hour and shut down the ones you don’t need anymore, what are we so afraid off? That’s why the browser history exists right?
15. READ OR WRITE BEFORE BED
Take your time to unwind every afternoon. Before getting into bed you should already be relaxed. Wash your face and teeth and do a relaxing activity while avoiding screens one to two hours before sleeping. Reading is the perfect example, I’m sure we all have unread books at home! Writing is also very beneficial, if you aren’t used to it you can start a five minute journal. If you prefer something creative but you don’t want to think too much and fully unwind an adult coloring book is the perfect fit for you!
